 Health Information Privacy 

 

The need for coordinated, more integrated health systems is well recognized.  One important tool is access to a real-time complete medical record for informed medical decision-making.  Federal and state policy makers, along with payers are incentivising physicians and practice groups to adopt electronic health records (EHR).

Yet, there are many privacy and productivity concerns around EHR. Below are some resources regarding privacy that will supplement the EHR resources (link on the left navigation menu).

The US Department of Health & Human Services provides information on how the HIPAA and HITECH laws affect Health Information Privacy   

 The American Psychiatric Association has devoted a page to Privacy and Security resources.

PatientPrivacyRights.org recently pulished The Case for Informed Consent to explain why it is critical to honor what patients expect–for health care, health IT and privacy
